Sustainable Seafood Policy
As part of the Group’s commitment to conserving and protecting our environment, Shangri-La Group has implemented progressive programs to help ensure healthy oceans and safeguard seafood supplies for the future.
In 2012, Shangri-La Group introduced a Sustainable Seafood Policy. As part of the policy, the Group announced it would cease serving shark fin in all of its operated restaurants and for banqueting events.
Following the successful implementation of the Sustainable Seafood Policy, the Group rolled out the sustainable culinary initiative Rooted in Nature in 2014. The program highlights Shangri-La Group’s ethically and responsibly sourced food offerings, including those that fall under the Group’s Sustainable Seafood Policy.
In support of World Oceans Day on June 8, 2018, Shangri-La Group announced a corporate partnership with Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the achievement of MSC Chain of Custody certification for 53 Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and sister-brand properties in Mainland China and Hong Kong. With this partnership, Shangri-La Group has the most hotels in Asia with MSC Chain of Custody certification.
