In many places around the world, Australia included, morning and afternoon tea are daily rituals and much-loved traditions where people come together to take a break and catch up throughout the day. Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is an annual event that was introduced in 1994 by the Cancer Council to encourage community donations that help them continue their vital work through research, support and prevention.
Shangri-La Sydney has been a supporter of this important event for several years, including hosting “The Great Shangri-La Bake Off” in 2018 and 2019. This year, the hotel encouraged as many colleagues as possible to get involved with the event, with over 100 members of the team in attendance alongside representatives from Project Youth and Cancer Council. Colleagues contributed home-baked goods, with signature Shangri-La scones and free flowing tea available for a $5 donation.
“It is moving to witness the generosity from our wonderful Shangri-La family who baked so many treats. This Australia-wide fundraising initiative aids vital research and brings us closer to a cancer free future for all,” said Philippe Kronberg, General Manager Shangri-La Sydney. With more than $500 raised by the hotel going to support important cancer research and over 20,136 morning teas held across Australia, Shangri-La Sydney is proud to have a hand in raising funds for essential cancer research and prevention.
