Many countries have experienced lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. While benefiting the health and safety of our communities, the lockdowns can affect community members who have little access to procuring food and supplies. In March, Shangri-La properties in Mauritius and Taiwan stepped up to serve their community members in need.
With the country’s current lockdown in place since the second week of March, Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa arranged a food and supplies donation in partnership with the Village Council of Trou d’Eau Douce. Ten resort colleagues organized and packed provisions to deliver to families in need. Provisions included over 2,500 eggs and over 100 pairs of slippers donated by the resort. Colleagues distributed the packs to many fishermen and planters, as well as produce suppliers.
“It’s all about taking care of our community,” said Sunil Beerbul, CSR champion and executive manager of rooms at the resort. “Many of our colleagues are from the village. It is important to support them on a continuous basis.”
On March 26 in Taiwan, Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei colleagues volunteered at Andrew Charity Association to pack food supplies for families from low income backgrounds.
“It was a great opportunity to be part of this meaningful act of love and support,” said Jody Cheng, front office executive secretary at the hotel. “The team spirit was unceasing during the packing process.”
