Shangri-La Hotels And Resorts Plants 138 Trees Through Ant Forest Spring Planting Campaign

Shangri-La Group embraced the beginning of spring with the Alipay Ant Forest Spring Planting Campaign, which supports Shangri-La’s group-wide CSR initiative Race for Hope. The campaign encouraged colleagues, guests and communities to earn “green energy” by completing environmentally-friendly physical activities such as walking or cycling. When tracked on the Alipay Ant Forest platform, the activity digitally waters the Shangri-La Caring Forest.

Through the 21-day campaign, participants helped add 138 trees to Shangri-La’s digital forest, reaching a total of 637 trees. For every digital tree planted, Ant Financial plants a real tree.

“This was a significant step to reaching our goal of planting 5,000 trees by Shangri-La’s 50th anniversary in 2021,” said Victor Vazquez, executive vice president, operations (East China).

During the campaign, hotels and resorts in China organized unique activities to raise awareness for the campaign and contribute to Shangri-La’s Ant Forest.

Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian hosted a running activity in the gym. Forty-five colleagues participated and contributed 34,484 grams of energy.

Shangri-La Hotel, Hefei organized an online clothing drive, which collected a total of 131,507 grams of energy, equivalent to 9 trees. In addition, hotel colleagues actively introduced the initiative upon guest check-in, inviting guests to contribute to a greener earth.

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou incentivized colleagues to participate with fun prizes. By the end of March, 16 lucky colleagues received their cute souvenirs.

Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen organized a gardening activity to encourage environmentally-friendly exercise while enhancing the city’s greenery.

Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou set a goal for each colleague to water 70 grams per day between March 17 and 28. With everyone’s support, the hotel contributed 651,035 grams of energy by March 28, exceeding the goal by 92,435 grams.

From March 12 to 31, Shangri-La Hotel, Tianjin organized an online Water Challenge. Over 70 participants contributed over 140,780 grams of energy, and three participants helped water the forest for 20 consecutive days.

Spring Planting Campaign recognizes the top five “Watering Heroes,” colleagues who generate the most water on the platform, at each hotel. Each Watering Hero received an e-certificate and thank you letter from the leadership team in China. The top 10 Watering Heroes across all properties in China received a special thank you letter.
