Shangri-La Group Contributes To Tree Planting Goal During World Environment Day Campaign

To celebrate World Environment Day in June, Shangri-La Group properties in China participated in the Alipay Ant Forest World Environment Day campaign. From June 5 to 20, colleagues and guests throughout China participated in the campaign to help the Group water its Shangri-La Caring Forest, which supports reforestation in land protection areas. At the end of the campaign, Alipay Ant Forest announced the Ant Forest Energy List 2020, which recognizes the top five energy earners in five categories including city, organization, celebrity, brand and university.

To help the Group’s ranking, hotels engaged with guests through Weibo, encouraging them to partake in physical activity and track the activity on the app. When tracked on the app, the physical activity is converted into “water,” which helps grow Shangri-La’s Ant Forest.

Beyond virtual encouragement, the hotels hosted physical activities and programs to help water the Shangri-La Ant Forest.

Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang hosted a community cleanup with guests, community officers, sanitation workers and more. Participants contributed 198,546g of energy.

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou organized a visit to Suzhou Jiayue Rehabilitation Centre, where colleagues cleaned the premises and tracked their physical activity.

Fifty colleagues from Kerry Hotel, Beijing participated in a plogging activity in Chaoyang Park. The activity contributed to Shangri-La’s Ant Forest as well as beautified the park.

Songbei Shangri-La, Harbin, Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin, Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu and Shangri-La Hotel, Changzhou all organized community cleanups, which helped colleagues exercise as well as keep their communities clean.

Shangri-La Hotel, Xiamen hosted a night run, a community cleanup and clothes drive. Colleagues and guests contributed 105,400g of energy to water the virtual forest.

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou Yuanqu hosted a planting session while Shangri-La Hotel, Tangshan hosted an on-property watering activity in the staff restaurant.

Shangri-La Hotel, Changchun organized a hike, while China World Summit Wing, Beijing organized a cycling activity.

Shangri-La Hotel, Jinan, Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin, Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot and Shangri-La Hotel, Baotou hosted fitness classes for guests and colleagues.

By the end of the campaign, Shangri-La colleagues and guests planted 814 virtual trees, helping the Group achieve Top Three in the Ant Forest Green Energy List 2020. Shangri-La Group received a digital trophy for winning third place. Shangri-La Group was also ranked number two for energy contribution within that month.
