Created in 2017 by Jean-Guy de Gabriac, chief executive officer of Tip Touch International, World Wellness Weekend encourages people from all walks of life to participate in activities that improve holistic wellness. Celebrated in 100 countries and in line with the third Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations that supports Good Health and Wellbeing for All, World Wellness Weekend aims to inspire and empower people to make healthier choices and enjoy an active lifestyle with family & friends.
This year, the global celebration occurred on September 19 and 20. Check out how Shangri-La, Kerry, Traders and Jen properties, guests and colleagues around the world participated in the fourth annual World Wellness Weekend.
Over 50 Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing colleagues and their family members participated in the 4.5-kilometer Watermelon Run along the river. While running and carrying watermelons, the participants watered the Shangri-La Ant Forest with 10,200 grams of energy collected through the activity.
Kerry Hotel, Beijing hosted Zumba classes with healthy snacks for guests and colleagues.
Shangri-La Hotel, Chengdu celebrated the intellectual side of World Wellness Weekend by reading with children from the Big Brothers & Sisters program.
On September 19, China World Summit Wing, Beijing hosted a fitness activity in partnership with Lululemon and offered healthy dining experiences throughout the weekend. Shangri-La Hotel, Tangshan hosted a children’s balance car race at the public garden for 200 families.
Shangri-La, Kerry and JEN by Shangri-La properties in Hong Kong took World Wellness Weekend a step further by promoting a month-long devotion to healthy living. On September 9, a doctor from Vital Employee Service Consultancy, the hotel’s Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provider, hosted a webcast on “Chinese Medicine & COVID-19” highlighting the causes of the virus, immunity enhancement and diet therapy. Colleagues from Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong, Hotel Jen Hong Kong and Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong learned several recipes for healthy dishes and drinks.
On September 18, the staff restaurant at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong served healthy menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The culinary team prepared a special smoothie with banana, green tea powder, chestnut, skim milk and lettuce to energize colleagues.
On September 19 and 20, PURE Yoga hosted group classes at Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong Base Camp. Colleagues from around the city participated in yoga, Pilates, nutrition classes and more via online telecast.
Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya guests and colleagues participated in a 15-kilometer ride throughout the destination. During the ride, colleagues distributed face masks to community members in need. At the finish line at Batu Batu Kenjeran Beach, participants ended the day by collecting garbage along the coast.
“We encourage our colleagues to have a zest for life through wellness practices and physical activity,” said Jonathan Reynolds, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya. “Living a well-balanced lifestyle is a lifelong effort that involves working towards achieving good physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, and participating in activities like a bike ride is a great way to help reach this goal.”
Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo encouraged colleagues to participate in healthy activities in their communities during the weekend. Colleagues shared images of their healthy activities including yoga, scuba diving, biking, soccer, weight lifting and more.
Twenty colleagues from Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu gathered at The Pavilion for a series of aerobics exercises led by Paul Chua, recreation service leader. After the hour-long activity, colleagues enjoyed fresh juice and each other’s company.
Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang and Golden Sands Resort, Penang hosted a series of fun and healthy activities including hypervolt contactless treatments, poco-poco and Zumba dance sessions as well as Tabata workouts.
Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius colleagues participated in jogging, a mini boot camp and breathing and meditation sessions led by Christelle Gamelle, the resort’s spa manager.
“We were so pleased to see our colleagues again and they were so enthusiasts to indulge in a relaxing day,” said Gamelle. “The activities were fun-filled, and it was a joyous atmosphere to be in.”
Makati Shangri-La, Manila hosted a series of events to promote its four pillars of wellness – Move, Renew, Nourish and Rest. Activities included fitness classes, pampering ritual demonstrations, cooking demonstrations and sleep coaching.
Shangri-La properties in Singapore hosted a series of engaging virtual classes. Colleagues and guests from Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore, JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La and JEN Singapore Orchardgateway by Shangri-La participated in virtual yoga meditation classes and educational talks. The hotels also offered entertainment, including a film night and virtual classical music concert.
Guests at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok enjoyed a series of healthy activities and healthy Rooted in Nature snacks. Francois Muguet, co-founder of Alodia Boutique Manufacturer of Professional Spa Products, hosted a Scents of Healing workshops to teach guests and colleagues about the healing benefits of essential oils. The weekend ended with a lovely sunset yoga session along the Chao Phraya River.
United Arab Emirates
Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi’s Health Club Team prepared a virtual workout for hotel colleagues. The team encouraged colleagues to participate in physical activity over the weekend, as well as continue healthy activities in their daily lives.
