On World Health Day, we recognize the importance of building a fairer, healthier world. As a global citizen, Shangri-La Group strives to positively impact the people we engage with and communities in which operate.


Throughout the year, Shangri-La Group is dedicated to improving the health of our guests, colleagues and communities through long-term community commitments, on-property elevated health and safety standards, continued education for our colleagues and guests about living healthier lifestyles and more.


Building Healthier Communities

Under Embrace, Shangri-La’s Care for People Project, our hotels and resorts form long-standing partnerships with local communities to promote health, wellbeing and education. Most of our hotels work with children and young adults – particularly people with special needs – by increasing their access to education and skills development opportunities. Other hotels invest in health services, such as surgeries and cancer treatments, for those who would otherwise have no access to life-saving care.


Embracing Health And Safety Through Shangri-La Cares

On the ground, Shangri-La properties consistently look after the wellbeing and health of guests and colleagues through stringent health and safety standards, including elevated standards through Shangri-La Cares. Shangri-La Cares embraces a series of safety standards and precautionary measures across our hotels to ensure the health and wellbeing of all guests and colleagues.


Concrete measures have been adopted at all hotels and resorts to combat the risk of contracting viruses and bacteria so that guests can feel safe when staying at or visiting its properties. These protocols include:

  • Increased frequency and full attention to deep cleaning of all high-touch surfaces and areas used by guests throughout the hotels;

  • Use of medical grade sanitizers and disinfectants, which are approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency;

  • Increased cleaning frequency of air filters and air-conditioner systems to ensure optimal air quality;

  • Safe dining, meetings and events with extra precautions to respect physical distancing and enhanced food safety practices.


World Health Day Programs

Around the world, Shangri-La properties will host various programs to promote healthy and safe communities and work environments.


In Indonesia, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta hosts a weekly Healthy Food Day to promote healthy eating among colleagues. For World Health Day, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta will organize a healthy food donation to a local orphanage and will host a healthy food educational class for the children. Colleagues will benefit from a health seminar focusing on mental health led by a local health expert.


In Malaysia, Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu will provide complimentary health screenings for colleagues as well as feature a healthy menu at the colleagues’ cafeteria. Colleagues will also participate in a voluntary group hike to promote physical fitness. In China, Shangri-La Hotel, Tangshan will invite colleagues and guests to participate in a local cycling activity.


JEN Beijing by Shangri-La offers a special wellness overnight stay for guests interested in expanding their fitness horizons. The JEN Active Fitness Staycation includes a dedicated Fitness Butler can arrange group fitness classes, fitness assessments and personal training sessions.
