As one of only five turtle nesting sites in Oman, Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa is home to nearly 100 turtle nests every year. As part of the resort’s Turtle Care Project, the resort ensures safe beaches for turtles that return to the same nesting sites every year, as well as documenting hatchling cycles and safeguarding safe return to the ocean.
This year, the resort has recorded over 50 nests to nearly 5,000 eggs. After three months since the first nesting, Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa welcomed the first group of hatchlings on April 19.
“The hatchlings left the comfort of their eggs and waddled to the oceans to embark on their adventures in the world,” said René D. Egle, area general manager.
Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa’s Turtle Care Project aims to protect the endangered hawksbill and green turtles species that are native to the beaches of Oman. The resort’s dedicated turtle ranger ensures the nests are sheltered from any threats and raises awareness on the plight of turtles through educational activities.
