During the global COVID-19 outbreak, schools across Sri Lanka were shuttered to help prevent virus spread in the classrooms. Since the initial closures, many schools have been closed for over four months.
As the country begins to reopen and allow schools to reopen their doors, some schools are in need of cleaning as dust, dirt and debris have collected after not being maintained for four months.
To lend a helping hand and help students have the best first day back possible, colleagues at Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa assisted Dehigahalanda School, the resort’s Embrace beneficiary, by clearing the school’s classrooms and grounds.
Colleagues readied the classrooms by sweeping the classrooms and hallways, deep cleaning the floors and surfaces and rearranging the desks.
“This was the first time the schools were shut down for such a long period,” said Palinda Perera, CSR manager at the hotel. “The daunting task was well addressed by our skillful staff members, who had no hesitation whatsoever.”

The team also cleared the school’s grounds, making the school look as neat as possible.
