Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila Achieves LEED Gold Status

On October 28, Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila achieved Gold status in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). LEED is the most widely used global rating system for environmentally-friendly buildings.

Establishments are rated based on seven major components, including:

  • Sustainability Sites: creation of erosion and sedimentation control plan for the reduction of pollution

  • Water Efficiency: management plan to best utilize water resources within the complex

  • Energy and Atmosphere: utilization of renewable energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

  • Material and Resources: involves recycling and waste management to reduce materials that would be disposed in landfills

  • Indoor Environmental Quality: implementation plan to elevate quality of indoor air ventilation

  • Innovation: uniqueness in design and seamless execution of above listed components

Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila falls under LEED’s Building Design and Construction (BD+C) category and was certified under the V2.2 rating process. The process distinguishes high-performance commercial and institutional projects including office buildings, high-rise residential buildings and more. The hotel received top marks in Water Efficiency, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation.

The outlet commits to reducing waste and its carbon footprint by working with suppliers and purveyors that produce quality and eco-friendly products and packaging, and utilizing all ingredients in the kitchen.
