Shangri-La Group Participates In Third Annual World Wellness Weekend

Created in 2017 by Jean-Guy de Gabriac, chief executive officer of Tip Touch International, World Wellness Weekend was initiated to encourage people from all walks of life to participate in activities that improve holistic wellness. Celebrated in 100 countries, World Wellness Weekend aims to remind participants that health is a relationship between the body, mind and oneself.

Check out how Shangri-La, Kerry, Traders and Jen properties, guests and colleagues around the world participated in the third annual World Wellness Weekend.


Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney hosted Tai Chi classes at Blu Bar on 36 overlooking Sydney’s iconic landmarks. In the Lobby Lounge, the hotel invited guests to enjoy complimentary hand massages by members of the award-winning CHI, The Spa team. Throughout the weekend, the Health Club offered fresh and healthy juice shots packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

“Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney was delighted to provide guests with tangible mental and physical health boosts as part of our commitment to provide the best service possible,” said Kieron Hunt, resident manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney.


Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver introduced a special Himalayan Salt Stone Massage at CHI, The Spa, which included a complimentary green detox smoothie and choice of bath soap or bath bomb made locally from natural ingredients. Throughout the weekend, the hotel offered complimentary wellness shots, granola bars, trail mix, fresh fruit and yogurt parfaits.

Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver invited colleagues to participate in World Wellness Weekend with morning stretches, a wellness walk, massages and an evening kick boxing class.


China World Summit Wing, Beijing hosted Crossfit® and yoga classes at the outdoor Pine Garden on the sixth floor of the hotel. Qian Liang, founder of Crossfit-Huang Cheng, led the Crossfit® class and Yubi, a yoga instructor, led a relaxing yoga class.

Kerry Hotel, Beijing invited community members to participate in a Nike Training Workout led by Kerry Sports’ Coach Liu and a yoga session led by Coach Lv Ran. The hotel hosted a healthy meal after the sessions and guests left with goodie bags filled with nutritional supplements and fitness drinks provided by ProSupps and Celsius.

Hotel Jen Beijing’s Trainyard gym hosted a morning HIIT class and afternoon BodyPump and BodyCombat classes by Les Mills. To promote mental health, the hotel hosted a cultural flower workshop at Prototype as part of its Jen-why Art program.

On September 21 and 22, Hotel Jen Beijing’s Beersmith offered a Green Weekend menu with healthy items including veggie burgers, salads and high-protein dishes. The restaurant also launched a Zero-Proof Cocktails menu with alcohol-free and sugar-free cocktails.

On September 21, colleagues from Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing cycled from the hotel to the Summer Palace, one of the most historic and popular sites in Beijing. While at Summer Palace, colleagues engaged with the local community and tourists to encourage healthy lifestyles.

Colleagues from Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian organized activities for children at the hotel’s tennis courts including relay races, team activities and more.

Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou celebrated World Wellness Weekend by welcoming guests to its newly-renovated Health Club and yoga room. The Health Club team prepared yoga and aerobics classes followed by healthy snacks and juice to recharge.

Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin invited guests, Health Club members and colleagues to participate in a triathlon fitness competition.

Guests of Midtown Shangri-La, Hangzhou participated in a yoga session followed by healthy and relaxing tea.

Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin hosted fitness and relaxation classes for guests and colleagues. Trainers provided health assessments and helped participants identify the best exercises and stretches for their needs.

Jason Xu, general manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Jinan, led warm-up exercises and a city walk for colleagues and guests. The activities benefited the Shangri-La Ant Forest, part of the group-wide Race for Hope initiative with a goal to plant 5,000 trees.

Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao organized a yoga session followed by healthy snacks and drinks.

Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai offered complimentary back massages, kinesis assessments, fitness lectures, healthy snacks and a sunset yoga session.

Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen organized a morning walk for guests and colleagues. The walk promoted physical fitness and supported Shangri-La Group’s Race for Hope program.

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou hosted a morning yoga session for guests and a fitness session for colleagues. Following the sessions, all participants enjoyed a healthy breakfast of fresh fruit and juices.

Shangri-La Hotel, Tangshan organized outdoor fitness activities and healthy snacks.

Shangri-La Hotel, Wuhan guests and colleagues danced the night away during a Zumba® DJ Night at the Health Club.

“It was beyond our expectations that we had a diverse turn out from young kids to elderly folks who were passionate to follow the steps of the coaches while enjoying the beats by the DJ,” said Adrian Chua, resident manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Wuhan. “Amazingly, after almost 2 hours of dancing, no one felt tired!”

Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang hosted a series of activities including yoga, HIIT classes, Zumba® workouts and shoulder massages. Guests also enjoyed healthy snacks and juices at CHI, The Spa.


Shangri-La's Fijian Resort & Spa, Yanuca Island started World Wellness Weekend with a morning power walk around the island led by the CHI, The Spa team. In the afternoon, the resort organized pool basketball, Zumba® classes and family activities including kayak racing and relay challenges.

Hong Kong

Over 200 colleagues from Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong participated in World Wellness Weekend activities including complimentary yoga classes, a challenging Vertical Walk up the hotel’s 56 floors and Power Generation cycling station that blended fresh smoothies.

Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong offered exclusive packages to guests including use of the infinity pool, Base Camp Kerry Sports gym, steam rooms and saunas, choice of a 60-minute spa treatment, enrollment in a yoga class and a poolside healthy lunch.

Throughout the weekend, Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru hosted wellness activities including yoga and meditation, a mindful gardening demonstration, sound spa, Aqua Zumba®, healthy breakfast and a healthy afternoon tea.

Shangri-La’s – Eros Hotel, New Delhi organized a complimentary morning yoga session followed by a detox breakfast. The hotel also offered special healthy room amenities to VIP guests and Golden Circle members.


Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta hosted a Disco Zumba® class in SATOO Garden. After the Zumba® activity, guests enjoyed a perfume-making workshop by L’Occitane, free medical check-up by Medikaloka and a fashion bazaar by REE by Riana Ree.

Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya organized Zumba® classes, gymnastics lessons and healthy menus. Guests, colleagues and 14 students from Tunas Kasih School, a local school that teaches children from low income communities, planted herbs in upcycled plastic bottles and containers.

“The purpose of the World Wellness Weekend aligns with our core value of hospitality from the heart, which includes concern for the health and well-being of our guests, colleagues and communities,” said Cahya Bhinartika, service manager – CSR and sustainability at Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya.


Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur celebrated World Wellness Weekend with aerobics classes, yoga classes, sound bath sessions, energizing shoulder massages and healthy snacks. Dylan Smith, manager of spa and health club operations, led a DIY lavender pillow case making session.

Throughout the weekend, Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur organized a cake shop in partnership with Depressed Cake Shop, a pop-up bakery that supports mental health. The cake shop sold baked goods including cakes, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, panna cotta and more. All proceeds from the sales were donated to Malaysian Mental Health Association, a nonprofit organization formed by mental health professionals and community leaders from the University Hospital MMHA.

“The objective is to promote mental health in the community,” said Christian Nannucci, general manager of Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. “The organizations aim to help raise the standard of treatment, prevention and research in the field of mental health. We are proud to partner with organizations that aim to improve mental health.”

Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang celebrated World Wellness Weekend with a series of fun activities for guests and community members. The resort started with an energetic kickboxing class in The Marquee Tent, followed by a cool down with rattan tapping massage and detox juices. In the afternoon, the resort served healthy snacks at the pool such as Tutti Frutti Ice Pops made with real fruit.

On September 22, the resort hosted a Zumba® class on the beach followed by another round of rattan tapping massages and detox juices.

“The participants enjoyed themselves and promised to return next year to reinforce the fact that having fun while staying healthy brings an array of benefits to oneself and those around us,” said Joshua Tan, area spa director, Malaysia.

On September 19, Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor celebrated World Wellness Weekend with complimentary shoulder massages, Zumba® classes, and healthy fresh-squeezed juice.

On September 20, a doctor from Columbia Asia led a seminar about cardiovascular health. After the talk, the spa team shared tips for maintaining healthy skin and led an exfoliating hand massage demonstration. The day ended with a salad bar prepared by the hotel’s chefs.

“Through these activities, our colleagues not only had fun, but also gained some tips on how to maintain healthy lifestyles and take care of their hearts,” said Kon Len Goh, director of human resources for Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor.

Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu guests enjoyed aqua aerobics, Zumba® classes, complimentary shoulder massages and freshly-squeezed juices throughout the weekend.


Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius hosted an array of programs including morning walks, kayaking, electric bicycle tours, tennis volleyball tournament, yoga sessions, crystal and acupuncture workshop, massages, Pilates and healthy meals.

The resort also welcomed Aurelie Bouhr, a physiotherapist who specializes in aerial aerobics, muscular therapy and lymphatic drainage, to teach an aerial aerobics class.


On September 21, Shangri-La Hotel, Ulaanbaatar colleagues participated in a hike up Bogd Khan Mountain, an ecologically diverse mountain with over 200 types of plants and unique fauna. Later that day, colleagues beautified the hotel’s neighborhood during a community cleanup.


On September 21, Sule Shangri-La, Yangon kicked off World Wellness Weekend with a 15-minute cycling session. The hotel hosted a Zumba® class in the afternoon.

On September 22, Sule Shangri-La, Yangon hosted an Aqua Aerobics class and a yoga session followed by a healthy Sunday brunch at Café Sule.


On September 22, Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila hosted the Citi Vertical Run at Kerry Sports Manila. In partnership with Citi Philippines, the event challenged over 700 runners to climb 59 floors, or 1,353 steps, either individually or in teams of four participants. The hotel also offered shorter climbs with the Horizon Challenge of 39 floors and the Fun Climb of 22 floors. Runners ranged from 10 years old to 73 years old.

Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila also hosted meditation and HIIT classes throughout the weekend.

On September 21, Makati Shangri-La, Manila partnered with Aquanimous Yoga to organize a range of activities including stand up paddle yoga in the pool, an Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga session, a Yin-Restore yoga session, guided meditation and healthy snacks.

On September 22, Makati Shangri-La, Manila partnered with TAP Tennis Development Program to host tennis drills and matches.

Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa, Philippines hosted a Couples Massage Workshop, Kundalini yoga session, circuit training fitness class and shoulder massages. Children participated in rainbow pancake demonstrations and a sack race.


Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore hosted sunrise yoga on the beach, water aerobics and more.

Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore organized Aquaspin classes for hotel guests. Colleagues were invited to a Chiropractic Health Talk led by Dr. John and Dr. Neil from Asia One Chiropractic. After the talk, colleagues participated in complimentary spinal screenings and health evaluations.


Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok hosted an array of wellness programs, including a Rooted in Nature “healthy corner” in NEXT2 Café and CHI, The Spa promotions all weekend. On September 21, the hotel hosted a mindfulness seminar and Tai Chi class.

On September 22, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok hosted a Crystal Bowl Therapy activity led by Ms. Navanath Sriyuksiri, a Thai reiki and sound healer.

Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai organized the “Ride for a Healthier Life and Grow for a Greener World” cycling event. Starting at the hotel, participants cycled about 15 kilometers to the Cowboy Army Riding Club, then another five kilometers to the 5th Special Forces Regiment Military Base in Mae Rim district. In the afternoon, participants and military personnel planted trees in a forest near the base.

After the cycling event, Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai hosted Muay Thai and aqua aerobics classes.

Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan organized stretching and yoga sessions for hotel colleagues. Alice Chou, general manager of the hotel, led an exercise class at the hotel’s outdoor swimming pool followed by a healthy breakfast.

“We hope to energize and encourage our coworkers to live well and provide our guests the best hospitality and service with energy,” said Doris Pu, communications manager at Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan.

Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei hosted a Face Mask X Juice Making event in the Health Club. Professional beauticians consulted with guests to determine the best ingredients for homemade face masks for their unique skin types. The beauticians then helped the guests create their bespoke facemasks.

Guests also selected fruits and vegetables to create their own juice by cycling on bicycle-powered juicers.


On September 21, Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul invited Dr. Pravin Kaushal, a famous reflexologist in Istanbul, to host a reflexology workshop at CHI, The Spa. Guests who participated in the workshop received a complimentary healthy breakfast and spa vouchers.

Throughout the weekend, Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul offered complimentary health consultations, a wellness turndown amenity and healthy juices for guests during check in and check out.

United Arab Emirates

Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi hosted free wellness activities for guests and community members starting with a Qi Gong session, an ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique that involves meditation. The day continued with controlled breathing and movement exercises, followed by yoga and Zumba® classes. In between the session, participants enjoyed healthy smoothies prepared by Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi’s culinary team. Throughout the weekend, the hotels offered complimentary pool and beach access to pre-registered World Wellness Weekend participants as well as complimentary medical examinations provided by the hotels’ healthcare partners.

Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai hosted an Afro Fitness class, which is a workout that utilizes traditional and contemporary African dance technique to improve body tone, flexibility, cardiovascular health and overall fitness.
