On June 4, Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka celebrated its three year anniversary with the reopening of the renovated Science Laboratory at the Dehigahalanda School, the resort’s EMBRACE partner that teaches underprivileged children from nearby villages. The resort funded the renovation through resources generated by charity sales since 2017.
“Money generated during the last two years were deposited under the School Relief Initiative project,” said Palinda Perera, CSR and sustainability manager at the resort. “The project came to life with a complete restoration of two buildings, both inside and outside, fixing damaged areas of the ceilings and providing new furniture.”
Resort colleagues, school teachers and students performed a traditional ritual to bless the Science Laboratory.
“Little by little, fundraising efforts over the two years made a big impact to the school,” continued Perera. “We are glad to address the needs of the community and help make a positive change.”
Congratulations to Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka on three successful years of operation, and for making a positive impact in the community.
