How Sweet CSR Is: Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney Hosts The Great Shangri-La Bake Off To Benefit Cancer Council Of Australia

On June 3, Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney invited colleagues and representatives from Project Youth, the hotel’s EMBRACE partner that supports at-risk youth in Australia, to showcase their baking skills at The Great Shangri-La Bake Off, a Cancer Council of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraising event. The Great Shangri-La Bake Off supported the Cancer Council of Australia, an organization that raises funds and provides research, prevention, support programs, and information to those impacted by cancer.

  

Judged by the hotel’s pastry chefs and executive colleagues, over 24 contestants created their best homemade treats to compete for first, second and third place. Desserts were judged based on both presentation and taste.

 

Over 100 colleagues and representatives from Project Youth attended the event, who purchased treats by the slice. All proceeds of the event were donated to the Cancer Council of Australia.

 

“It was heart-warming to see the generosity of spirit of our bakers who shared their culinary talents, along with our colleagues who savored their sweet treats, all helping in the fight against cancer,” said Kieron Hunt, resident manager and CSR leader at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney.

 

Simon Hoole, human resources director at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, took home first prize for his luscious Hummingbird Lamington. Project Youth shared the first place award for its Passionfruit Slice.
