Breakfast For A Cause: Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver Supports The Woodward’s Community Table Annual Pa

The Government of British Columbia estimates there are approximately 557,000 people in the province living below the poverty line, which can lead to food insecurity for many community members. To address this issue and help those in need, the Woodward’s Atrium in Vancouver has hosted the annual Woodward’s Community Table pancake breakfast since 2011. The event feeds over 1,000 Vancouverites, including those living in the surrounding affordable housing communities.

On May 4, 26 colleagues from Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver volunteered at the eighth annual event. The event supported the 2019 charitable partner PHS Community Services Society, a non-profit organization that offers housing, healthcare and services to underprivileged members of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) community.

Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver colleagues prepared the main course of pancakes as well as servings of fruit, yogurt and fresh coffee, all of which were donated or funded by Nesters Market Grocery Stores, London Drugs, JJ Bean Coffee Roasters and Westbank and Peterson. Colleagues also beautified the dining tables with floral centerpieces, served coffee and food during the meal, and engaged with members of the community.

“This event is one of the highlights of the year for our team,” said Milan Drager, general manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver. “We look forward to coming together in collaboration with our fellow partners, and serving the most important meal of the day to our community.”

“It’s important to promote the great work that local organizations are doing to provide support services to marginalized residents,” said Drager. “Collectively as a city, we must remain engaged to ensure ongoing support to those who are facing barriers.”

Thank you to our colleagues at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver for supporting the community and helping those in need.
