Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius has been buzz-y with bee activities! In October 2018, Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius introduced 10 beehives on the resort’s grounds. The hives are a safe distance away from guests and are monitored by a trained team led by Tony Myrtile, a butler at the resort’s villas. On March 21, the resort announced its first honey production from the hives. Myrtile harvested two honeycombs and extracted 1.5 liters of honey.
The honey and honeycomb were packaged into 35 jars, which resort guests can purchase as a sweet souvenir.
The resort’s beehive initiative is in line with the Shangri-La’s group-wide food and beverage initiative, Rooted in Nature. The initiative aims to respect the natural order of things and reduce damage on the environment by serving sustainably-sourced and ethically-produced ingredients.
