As they say – teamwork makes the dream work! On April 9, over 70 colleagues from Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong, Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong and Hotel Jen Hong Kong joined forces to clean Lung Kwu Tan beach. Located on the west coast of Hong Kong, Lung Kwu Tan beach is a popular destination for kitesurfing during warm summer days, but can be unsafe due to pollutants and debris. Colleagues helped beautify the area and make the beach safer by collecting 45 kilograms of litter, plastic waste and debris.
“Working in the Housekeeping department, we exercise and stretch our bodies a lot every day, but cleaning a beach under the sun and bright blue skies makes my ‘stretching exercise’ even more fun,” said Ellen Wong, general service supervisor at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong. “I am proud to make our city cleaner, and I would love to do more in the future.”
“I am pleased with the positive response and great support from our colleagues,” said Terry Chan, human resources manager at Hotel Jen Hong Kong. “Keeping our environment clean is as important as keeping our own house clean. It is essential for us to reinforce these community-wide efforts in the future.”
“We are beyond excited to have taken part in the coastal cleaning activity," said Wilson Chin, assistant communications manager at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong. "Within two hours, we collected 45 kilograms of garbage that was left on the beach. Imagine what the combined effort would be if everyone would do their part and pick up after themselves to maintain a rubbish-free coast.”
“I really enjoyed the beach clean-up as not only did I have a chance to breathe in the fresh air and get closer to nature, but I also got to know my colleagues within the Shangri-La family and sister hotels better, as a relatively new joiner of the Shangri-La group,” said Billy Chung, cost control supervisor at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong.
“We hope that our dedication to environmental protection can be further reinforced among colleagues after this successful activity,” said Ijo Tan, senior marketing communications executive at Hotel Jen Hong Kong.
Congratulations to our colleagues at all four Hong Kong properties on the successful environmental event!
