Every year on March 3, people around the world celebrate World Hearing Day to raise awareness about hearing disabilities, how to prevent deafness and hearing loss, and promote ear and hearing care at a global scale. On March 4, Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya observed World Hearing Day with students from the Tunas Mulia Surabaya School, which teaches children with special needs. In partnership with three local non-governmental organizations, 20 hotel volunteers organized an educational presentation and activities, during which the students with hearing impairments learned useful trade skills in housekeeping.
“The main goal of the activity is to provide skills for students with hearing impairments in housekeeping and laundry fields as well as other useful abilities,” said Cahya Bhinartika, Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya’s service manager – CSR and sustainability.
“We hope that, in addition to the skills they use in their daily lives, these new skills will spark interest to work in the hospitality industry,” said Bhinartika.
Thank you to our colleagues in Surabaya for engaging with our community on World Hearing Day.
