China World Summit Wing, Beijing Partners With Hua Ao School To Learn The Art Of Shadow Puppet Anima

At Shangri-La, we believe that learning can go hand in hand with having fun. Throughout 2018, sixty colleagues from China World Summit Wing, Beijing committed to a long-term educational project with the Hua Ao School, which teaches underprivileged children whose parents are migrant workers. On one Sunday of every month from March to December, the colleagues and students learned shadow puppet animation led by a professional shadow puppet master. Between classes, the students practiced their skills at home to prepare for a performance in December.

“This project took nine months from start to completion,” said Nora Li, director of communications at the hotel. “From the initial challenging period when the children were shy, to ending on a high at the end when everyone became friends, it was a very meaningful experience to both the children and colleagues!”

On December 23, the children showed off their new skills during a shadow puppet performance for their parents, school teachers and hotel colleagues.

“Many of those who were present were filled with emotion and appreciated the playfulness and importance of children having fun,” said Li.

Way to go, China World Summit Wing, Beijing!
