Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou and Shangri-La Hotel, Xiamen Support Ride for Hope 3

On October 20, 32 cyclists from 30 Shangri-La hotels embarked on Ride for Hope 3, a 5,000-kilometer (about 3,107-mile) journey through Mainland China and Hong Kong, to raise funds and awareness for Ai You Foundation, which helps children with development dislocation diseases from underprivileged communities. Leading up to the event, Shangri-La Hotel, Xiamen and Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou hosted charity events to support the cause.

From August 1 to October 20, Shangri-La Hotel, Xiamen invited guests to participate in “Hang for Hope,” a pull-up contest in the lobby. With an entry price of RMB30 (about USD4.30), the hotel awarded each participant who accomplished consistent pull-ups in 2.5 minutes with a voucher for dim sum buffet at Fu Gong. Participants who completed pull-ups for 3.5 minutes won a buffet voucher to Café Amoy.

Through the fun pull-up activity and donations from local organizations, the hotel raised over RMB140,000 (about USD20,162) for Ride for Hope 3.

“We are excited and grateful to participate in such a wonderful cause and event,” said Richard Hng, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Xiamen. “We hope to inspire our guests, colleagues and community to incorporate charity and social responsibility in their everyday lives.”

On October 22, Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou prepared for its leg of Ride for Hope 3 with a fun charity cocktail party. During the party, the hotel auctioned off donated items including hotel room vouchers, perfumes and colognes, bedding products, Shoushan stone bracelets and necklaces, and paintings created by children from Mercy Field Home, the hotel’s EMBRACE beneficiary.

The auction raised over RMB21,800 (about USD3,139), which the hotel will donate directly to the Ai You Foundation.

“Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou is honored to participate in this nationwide charity cycling tour,” said Eric Mommejac, general manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou. “The event is not only of public interest, but also encourages healthy lifestyles.

The next day, the hotel hosted an energetic breakfast and ceremony for Ride for Hope 3. Local riders joined the six Ride for Hope cyclists on a scenic Fuzhou Local Ride. The Ride for Hope cyclists were sent off with a grand farewell as they headed to Wenzhou.

“At this stop of the race, we were very fortunate to watch partners and our caring colleagues work together for a common purpose – to help children in need,” said Mommejac. “I wish this nationwide charity cycling event success!”

Thank you to our colleagues and communities in Xiamen and Fuzhou for supporting Ride for Hope 3. We wish all the cyclists the best of luck on their journeys.
