You know what they say – for love of the game! On July 31 and August 1, Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru celebrated National Sports Day with its first Shang Olympics. During a day full of friendly competition, over 400 colleagues participated in nine teams, each led by division and department heads. Hosted in a special indoor arena in Bengaluru, the event promoted teamwork inside and outside of the hotel.
“Leading up to the two-day event, all teams proactively engaged in practice sessions after work,” said Vivek Srinivasan, director of human resources for the hotel.
During the Shang Olympics, teams participated in indoor cricket, soccer, volleyball, table tennis, wall climbing and more.
“Beyond these sports, we held fun and exciting team building activities such as ice plank challenge & tug-of-war to keep our colleagues on their toes,” said Srinivasan. “The unity and coordination between the teams was better than ever before with departments battling it out to become the 2018 Shang Olympic Champions!”
“Scores of supporters thronged the arena and chanted their team slogans as the games kicked off on day one,” said Srinivasan. “A lot of interaction among our colleagues from different areas harnessed the team synergy. This event also had a great impact on our new colleagues who experienced the explosive energy and the fun atmosphere at the venue.”
