On August 3, Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu and Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu donated teaching tools to the Tuaran Community Rehabilitation Centre, which focuses on educating people with autism. Fiona Hagan, general manager for Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu, represented both resorts at the donation.
The donation was made possible from the successful fourth Ride for Autism held in April, during which 172 riders participated. Supported by Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, the mayor of Kota Kinabalu, the bike ride started at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort and finished at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort.
“We wish to thank all the riders and sponsors for supporting the center’s educational program, which focuses on teaching people with autism and other learning abilities how to build communication and socialization skills, as well as participate in recreation and leisure activities,” said Hagan.
“The donations are perfect tools that our educators will use to calm the students, encourage social skills, and foster sensory and language development,” said Datin Alice Tee, Vice Chairman of the Tuaran Community Rehabilitation Centre. “Education is critical in early intervention programs, and even the simplest toys can make all the difference. For our kids, sensory toys are just plain fun! The best toys and activities for children with autism spectrum disorder are the ones that motivate our kids to engage.”
Congratulations to the team in Kota Kinabalu! We look forward to the next Ride for Autism.
