Starting in 2018, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok has committed to Lerdsin Hospital as the hotel’s EMBRACE beneficiary. Established in 1889, the Lerdsin Hospital treats patients from low income backgrounds under the government’s social security program. The hospital relies on limited government financial support, including the pediatric ward in the Kanjanapisek Building, which has been in operation since 2004. After 14 years of operation, the building has not been renovated since its opening and required a much-needed face lift.
To kick off the partnership in March 2018, volunteers from Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok visited the Lerdsin Hospital Kanjanapisek Building to help beautify the space. Led by Caroline Cheah, the hotel’s general manager, hotel colleagues brightened the pediatric center by painting the walls with fun designs and hanging wallpaper.
“I am so glad that I had an opportunity to volunteer at the Lerdsin Hospital,” said Mr. Monton Mongkolyos, a colleague in the engineering department. “Lerdsin was an old and gloomy hospital, but with the help of our team, we made this pediatric ward beautiful with colorful and vibrant wall paintings. We are very proud of the result. Both child patients and their relatives came to talk to us about how we lifted up the ambiance of this ward.”
“I like being a part of the hotel’s CSR activities, so when I learned about this project, I signed up for it right away,” said Sawat Pannuy, assistant chief security at the hotel. “I am so happy that our hard work is making children smile.”
In July, our colleagues completed the final phase of the project. The once bare walls are now complete with whimsical paintings of animals, landscapes and scenes.
Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok will continue working with the Lerdsin Hospital through hands-on volunteer efforts, including providing activities for the children and parents throughout the year.
Congratulations to the team at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. We look forward to a successful partnership.
