Shangri-La hotels and resorts around the world are devoted to making the greatest positive impact in their communities through long term projects. Since 2014, Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou has committed to raising funds and donations for cochlear implant surgeries for children with hearing impairments through its Hearing the World charitable program.
The project’s most recent beneficiary, Liu Mengsheng, received his cochlear implant surgery at the University of Suzhou Children’s Hospital on December 24, 2017. As with previous surgeries provided through Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou’s Hearing the World project, the hotel covered the operation costs, including the artificial cochlear implant, pre-operative examination fees and all hospitalization costs.
After one month of recovery following the cochlear implant preparatory surgery, Liu was ready to receive his new cochlear implant. On February 10, Liu’s artificial cochlear implant was successfully activated at the Jiayue Early Childhood Intervention Center. Shangri-La Hotel Suzhou General Manager Oscar Gao and Executive Assistant Manager Jobst Herr were on hand to witness the momentous occasion.
“After the hearing test and device adjustment, Liu was able to hear clearly with a big smile on his face, which cheered up everyone on the spot,” said Herr.
Congratulations to the hotel on another successful Hearing the World activation. For more information on Hearing the World, check out Wang Haibo’s and Chen Siyi’s heartwarming stories.
