Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is committed to long-term corporate social responsibility projects to create the greatest positive impact for our communities worldwide. Shangri-La Hotel, Changchun has followed this mission with its annual Shangri-La Charity Walk and Gala Dinner and partnership with the Foreign Affairs Office of Changchun Municipality and the Village Branch.
In 2016, the hotel helped improve the homes of five families in low-income villages with RMB70,000 (about USD11,041) in donations and funds raised.
On May 7, 2017, the project continued with the 13th Annual Shangri-La Charity Walk and Dinner, where the hotel hosted guests for a fun walk through the community followed by dinner. Attended by over 200 volunteers, the successful event raised over RMB100,000 (about USD15,772) for families in the Hougang Village, a low-income community in Changchun.
On December 20, 2017, Vincent Tian, general manager of the hotel, and representatives from the Foreign Affairs Office of Changchun Municipality delivered the funds directly to members of the village. The funds have gone to improving the homes of members in the community.
Prior to the initiative, the homes were in poor condition and almost unlivable. Since the handover, the villagers have moved into their new homes, which have working electricity, insulated walls and consistent running water.
“The handover was very moving for everyone present,” said Vincent Tian. “Shangri-La Hotel, Changchun is honored to be part of such an important cause. We look forward to continuing to improve the community and the villager’s livelihoods.”
Congratulations to everyone involved in the project! We look forward to the continued partnership with Hougang Village.
