At Shangri-La, we love combining fun with CSR, even on the golf course. On December 2, 2017, in partnership with Golf Vacations Malaysia Magazine and the Penang Turtle Conservation Centre, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang hosted its first fundraising golf tournament. During the event, 32 golfers played a nine-hole course, enjoyed dinner and bid in an auction to raise money for a new pond for baby turtles at the Penang Turtle Conservation Centre in Penang National Park. The successful event raised over RM22,500 (about USD5,750), which will go towards building and maintaining the new pond.
Even though the morning was threatened with heavy rain, the participants did what any true golfer would do and waited out the bad weather to play in the afternoon. While the golfers took on the nine holes, the resort served champagne and beer to the other event attendees.
After golfing, attendees enjoyed a buffet dinner and live entertainment. Attendees bid in an auction for Corum clocks, a Maurice Lacroix Swiss watch, Mercedes golf bags, TaylorMade golf clubs and more.
The fun night continued with giveaways, a photo booth, and a raffle for a complimentary stay at Shangri-La properties in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
“By the end of the evening, practically everyone ended up with a prize,” said Suleiman TAR, director of communications at the resort. “The word is that every golfer is excited and looking forward to the second edition of the golf tournament!”
“It is such an honour to be able to host members of the local business community in our first ever golf tournament for a worthy cause,” said Nick Flynn, resident manager of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa. “We are so fortunate to have welcomed the golfers, who we consider our friends. A huge thank you to the sponsors who helped to make the golf tournament an exciting and successful fundraising event!”
Congratulations to Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang for its first ever CSR golf tournament hosted at the resort! We look forward to the progress of the new pond that will keep baby turtles in Penang safe.
