At Shangri-La, we know that dining is about more than just taste – it’s about experience. On September 24, Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin and Songbei Shangri-La, Harbin invited guests to experience a special harvest trip and luxurious lunch in a beautiful golden rice field. In line with the group-wide sustainable food and beverage initiative, Rooted in Nature, the event celebrated the local farmers and their organic ingredients, which guests can enjoy at the hotels’ restaurants.
As guests arrived to the event, a red carpet led to a beautifully set table with red chairs and red table cloth, which stood out dramatically against the golden rice field.
During the event, the local farmers invited the guests to taste organic Wuchang rice, known as one of the best varietal of rice in China, which was cooked fresh tableside in an iron pan. According to the farmers, the rice has an authentic sweet flavour with a pleasant scent that can be enjoyed both by itself and paired with other food.
After tasting the rice, guests enjoyed a special menu featuring No. 2 Daohuaxiang rice, a type of Wuchang rice, prepared by the Shangri-La Hotel, Harbin’s Chinese Executive Chef Jack Li. Using different cooking methods for the rice, the menu included: Homemade Daohuaxiang Rice Balls; Superior Soup served with Daohuaxiang Rice Soup; Signature Stewed Potato with Abalone in Chinese Red Sauce; Marinated Pork with Daohuaxiang Rice; and Daohuaxiang Rice Pudding.
“I enjoyed this trip and everything was just right," said Mr. Eric Ibanez, one of the guests. "The food tasted really good! Thanks for giving us the wonderful memories here at Harbin."
Congratulations to our Harbin hotels on the successful Rooted in Nature lunch!
