As a hotel group with properties around the world, Shangri-La takes pride in helping the natural ecosystem maintain balance. In June, 41 colleagues from Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen participated in an annual fish release. For the fifth year in a row, in partnership with Shenzhen Dapeng New Area Economic Service Bureau and Shenzhen Blue Ocean Conservation Association, our colleagues helped release 1.4 million shrimp seeds and young black snappers into the sea in Dapeng, Shenzhen, an area that is prone to overfishing. The event was held during a period with low fishing, so the released fish have the best chance to grow and repopulate.
“This is one of the most direct ways to protect the ocean and its inhabitants,” said Baisa Li, digital marketing manager at the hotel. “As one of Shangri-La Sustainability’s core pillars, we are proud to help Our Environment.”
Following the seed release, hotel colleagues volunteered in a successful beach cleanup. The hotel also hosted an educational booth throughout the event, where they provided information about ocean protection, sustainable food and Shangri-La’s group-wide sustainable food initiative Rooted in Nature.
Thank you to our dedicated colleagues at Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen! We look forward to next year’s fish release.
