Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok Goes The Extra Kilometer With “100 Kilometres Market”

Thailand is full of unique ingredients, services and goods, and Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok has brought them right to its own doorstep. Throughout the summer on every first Sunday of the month, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok welcomes artisans and farmers to its 100 Kilometres Market at the Krungthep Wing. In partnership with Scholars of Sustenance and Bangkok River Partners, the hotel will host the environmentally-friendly market where socially-responsible suppliers within 100 kilometers of the city can sell their goods to Bangkok residents and hotel guests.

At the market, visitors and Thai residents can shop for locally-made and produced goods and ingredients including hand-woven baskets, Thai textiles and fabric, candles, organic fruits and vegetables, juices and teas, and more. There is also a storytelling activity for younger visitors and a reflexology corner where guests can unwind with a foot massage.

To make the event as green as possible, market visitors are encouraged to bring reusable personal bags and baskets to eliminate the need for plastic bags.

We would like to thank Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok for hosting the sustainable event as well participating organizations and purveyors including Rak Kung Bang Kra Chao Agricultural Group, Western Smart Farmer Network, Petch Nam Nueng Argricultural Group and Organic Chicken Farm.

We look forward to welcoming hotel guests, city visitors and residents to the 100 Kilometres Market this summer.
