Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is committed to celebrating abilities of all kinds. Starting in 2012, the group established a goal for all properties to employ people with disabilities amounting to at least 2% of the permanent headcount. In keeping with this, Shangri-La’s Hambantota Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka hosted a job fair in January to reach out to members of the community with disabilities. Heads of various hotel departments engaged with fourteen candidates about employment opportunities. And the team discovered that the community is full of people with positive attitudes who can embody Shangri-La’s core values and mission.
“We believe that giving equal opportunities actively contributes to the development of individuals with disabilities as well as the communities in which we operate,” said Iain McCormack, General Manager of Shangri-La’s Hambantota Resort & Spa. “As part of EMBRACE, Shangri-La’s Care for People Project, our resort plays its part as a member of the local community by supporting and giving back to the people, and offering training, employment and sustainable careers in the field of hospitality.”
