Many say there is nowhere to go but up. This will be especially true at Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai when runners climb 250 meters (about 820 feet) at the hotel’s second annual fun run. Following the success of the hotel’s first Climb For Hope in June 2015, the hotel will host its second run on September 10, 2016, to promote healthy lifestyles and support the charitable beneficiary Shanghai Children’s Medical Centre.
The upcoming Climb For Hope Vertical Fun Run will host participants as they take on 60 floors and 1,625 steps to the top of Jing An Shangri-La to cross the finish line at the highest floor. All participation fee proceeds will be donated to the Shanghai Children’s Medical Centre to assist with children’s medical treatments. The hotel hopes to break its 2015 fundraising record of RMB$45,800 (about US$6,859) for the hospital.
“Besides climbing for charity, Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai hopes to promote a healthy and positive lifestyle through this event,” said Elizabeth Wan, director of communications for the hotel. “The stresses of big city urban living demands that we spend most of our time and energy at work, neglecting healthy living habits like proper nutrition, sleep and exercise. Climb for Hope Vertical Fun Run presents a light-hearted and fun side to exercise, bringing together families and the community to climb together.”
Registration is now open to adults 18 years and up. Individual participation fees are RMB288 (about US$43), which will include a complimentary buffet breakfast at Calypso Restaurant & Lounge, a commemorative event t-shirt, on-day warm-up instructions from the hotel’s professional fitness instructor, and a participation medal upon race completion. Family and friends of the participants are welcome to dine with participants for RMB$158 (about US$24) per person.
Interested climbers can register on the hotel’s bilingual WeChat registration page or at the hotel’s Health Club. For assistance or more information, please call the event hotline at (86 21) 2203 6780.
