Spring was an active season for Shangri-La properties around the world. Two hotels in China volunteered at local charity walks and runs, while a hotel in Singapore celebrated good health and active lifestyles with a scenic walk to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, proving that Shangri-La properties know how to run with great CSR.
In April, twenty colleagues including several colleagues with handicaps, from Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou volunteered and participated in the 2016 Charity Run, Walk & Roll organized by the Guangzhou English Training Center for the Handicapped (GETCH) and the GETCH Foundation. Along with participating in the race itself, colleagues sold cupcakes made by the hotel’s pastry chefs during and after the event. On May 19, colleagues from the hotel’s CSR committee visited GETCH and donated the RMB2,000 raised during the event.
“There is nothing more fulfilling than helping others,” said Rachel Wu, assistant communications manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou. “This is just a start of a long term collaboration with GETCH. We look forward to fostering this relationship to support students with physical challenges.”
On May 7, Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian hosted the third annual Run for Star Child Awareness race in partnership with the International Club of Dalian and AmCham China. That Saturday morning, 400 participants including hotel colleagues, students and teachers from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics and community members from local businesses gathered to help raise money and awareness for children with autism.
In Singapore, the human resources team at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore organized its Annual Orchid Evening Walk 2016. Focused on celebrating healthy and active lifestyles, eighty colleagues walked the six-kilometer evening stroll from the hotel to the Singapore Botanical Garden.
“It was a fun and memorable event as associates got to enjoy the lush beauty of the Botanical Garden while enjoying the evening breeze with colleagues and friends,” said Cheryl Ng, director of communications at the hotel.
The walk included a Best Picture Contest, in which participants were encouraged to take and submit fun photos taken during the walk. Charlene Chue, a member of the sales and marketing team at the hotel, won the contest with a photo of herself and colleagues across various departments.
“The winning image truly embodies the spirit of fun and showcases the teamwork among fellow colleagues,” said Ng.
