Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver Provides Those in Need with the Most Important Meal of the Day

Every year, Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver participates in a local CSR event hosted by Westbank Corporation that focuses on giving back to its community. In line with Shangri-La’s core values of helpfulness, selflessness, humility and respect, colleagues from the hotel served hot breakfast to over 3,000 people at the historic Woodward’s Building in Vancouver’s Lower East Side on April 24.

 

The annual event invites those less-fortunate in the community to a special breakfast with pancakes, yogurt, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee and tea. Colleagues from the hotel’s sales, events, housekeeping, engineering, banquets, front office, culinary and restaurant teams volunteered as cooks, hostesses, servers and bussers.

 

“We worked together to provide a nutritious meal served with care, dignity and respect to those who need it most,” said Bernie Johnson, director of human resources at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver.

 

To make the three-hour event as special as possible, the atrium was transformed into a luxury restaurant complete with china dishware, full food and beverage service, live jazz music and, of course, a hot meal.

 

“Our Shangri-La team ensured that hospitality from the heart flowed through to each guest we encountered, and that no one was left hungry,” said Johnson.

 

As the event ended, members of the Shangri-La team took to the streets to provide coffee, fresh oranges and extra pancakes to those who were unable to attend the breakfast.

 

“This ensured nothing went to waste and that we touched as many people as possible,” said Johnson.
