Shangri-La Hotel, Baotou Embraces Children’s Tomorrow

Recently, Shangri-La Hotel, Baotou showed that a little support goes a long way when the hotel launched its 15-year Embrace project with Baotou Children’s Welfare Institution. The organization is a children’s shelter in the hotel’s community that helps educate, rehabilitate and fundraise for children with cerebral palsy.

One of the rehabilitation methods includes a simulative supermarket where the children can walk through and pick their “groceries,” which helps with cognitive and decision-making skills. When the children are old enough, the organization helps place the children in hotel apprenticeships that match each child’s skill sets.

Through the partnership, the hotel will help facilitate skills training programs to encourage the children to work in the hotel industry and secure a sustainable career. It is the hope that after 10 to 15 years with the organization, the children will be able to care for themselves.

As part of the partnership, Shangri-La Hotel, Baotou supports four Shangri-La Care families that will help raise 16 children within the organization. The program helps bring couples and children together to create loving families in a safe and healthy environment. First, the Half the Sky Foundation (HTS) chose the parents through a strict selection process. The parents were then trained to care for each individual child’s needs. The hotel then provided each family with furniture, electronics and provides a monthly salary for the mother of each family. Under the parents’ care, the 16 children have already shown physical and mental improvements.

Thank you to Shangri-La Hotel, Baotou for helping with this initiative, and we can’t wait to see the wonderful things these children do!
