At Shangri-La, we love when two of our four pillars of Sustainability – Our People, Our Community, Our Environment and Our Business – come together for a good cause. It’s even better when three come together!
Recently, in partnership with the Red Cross in Guangdong Province, Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen combined Our Community, Our Business and Our Environment when the hotel invited five students and their parents from the hotel’s “Find Your Shangri-La” Embrace program to visit the local Dong Sheng Farm, which is one of the hotel’s food purveyors that practices responsible farming and part of the hotel’s commitment to Rooted in Nature. Along with nine hotel guests and 28 colleagues, the participants spent the day learning about sustainable farming and living healthy lifestyles.
For their first activity, the farmers educated the participants about its pesticide-free farming techniques, green-certified and organic vegetables that the farm produces.
The participants then had the chance to explore the farm, harvest sweet corn, cook with the hotel and farm chefs, and eat healthy and delicious dishes during the “Rooted in Nature Tea Break”.
The “Rooted in Nature Tea Break” was complete with sustainable ingredients procured from the farm and eco-friendly dish and silverware.
During the break, George Baird, general manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen, gave a speech to encourage the participants to develop and lead healthy, low-carbon and sustainable lifestyles.
For their last activity, the group visited the farm’s “animal town,” where the volunteers and guests enjoyed feeding the farm animals.
At the end of the day, the farm gifted every student and child an organic seedling to “bring nature and health home with them."
Congratulations to the team at Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen, on the successful CSR outing and for combining three pillars of Sustainability!
