Recently, Hotel Jen Penang committed to its EMBRACE beneficiary, Handicapped Children’s Centre (HCC), a charitable organization that houses and helps raise funds for children with special needs and handicaps. For one of the hotel’s first outreach activities, colleagues assisted twenty children from the center to help improve the children’s cognitive, listening and team-building skills.
With the help of Sealed Air Diversey’s Soap4Hope program, the children were divided into groups based on the organization’s strategic production line to reproduce soap.
The first group cut soaps into small cubes, each batch weighing 150 grams.
The next group dunked the cubes into a sanitizing bowl to sterilize the soap.
Participants then chose their own combination of scents to add to their soap. Scents included coffee grounds, pandan leaves, lemongrass, citrus fruits, flower petals and oats.
According to Elizabeth Liew, area CSR and sustainability manager for Shangri-La and Hotel Jen properties in Penang, the children made perfectly-molded soaps that even adults struggle to make. At the end of the day, the children took their completed soaps home as reminders of their hard work.
Congratulations to the team at Hotel Jen Penang, and keep up the good work.
