Leading up to its opening in 2016, Shangri-La’s Hambantota Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka invites Sri Lankan residents to participate in the Elephant R.U.N. (Reuse + Upcycle = New Art) sculpture competition. The exciting competition asks entrants to craft Asian elephant sculptures made entirely of discarded materials.

The artistic challenge will demonstrate how conservation and art can go hand-in-hand. The competition will also show that unwanted objects can be upcycled into inspirational artworks while raising awareness of the threats to wild Asian elephants across Sri Lanka.

Finalists will be selected by a panel of judges. The judges will consider the most creative, innovative and effective use of re-used and recycled materials. They will also judge entries based on the contest brief, including the size of the sculpture and its durability. The winning sculptures will be displayed around the resort.

Everyone can follow and engage with the contest via its social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for news updates and art inspiration.

Entry forms are due August 12, 2015, which is celebrated as World Elephant Day. Finalists will be announced in February 2016.

We look forward to all of the fantastic artwork!
