On Saturday, April 25, 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, which flattened large parts of the capital, Kathmandu, causing devastation across the Himalayan nation. The United Nations estimates eight million people have been affected and UNICEF estimates 1.7 million children require urgent aid.
We understand that it will take much more than the initial offers of aid to rebuild this beautiful country and the need to act fast is crucial. To that end, Shangri-La is supporting Oxfam to deliver aid and provide clean water, toilets and shelter to those affected in the Kathmandu Valley.
We invite you to join our efforts to the earthquake victims in Nepal by donating Golden Circle Award Points. For every 1,000 Golden Circle Award Points donated, Shangri-La will give US $40 to Oxfam Hong Kong. Shangri-La will match every donated Golden Circle point up to 2 million points and every dollar will go towards supporting the rescue efforts in Nepal. Donations will be accepted from April 30, 2015 to May 22, 2015.
Over the coming month, we will work with other agencies to provide clean water to 16 open air sites set up by the Government of Nepal and to provide food and shelter, while also expanding operations outside Kathmandu.
Our thoughts are with those suffering in the aftermath of the earthquake. We hope you will join us to support those in Nepal.
