2015 Ride for Hope Pedals Through the Finish Line

On January 9, 2015, eight dedicated cyclists completed their seven-day, 800-kilometer (about 497-mile) journey for the 2015 Ride for Hope charity bike ride. The riders arrived at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong having raised RMB820,000 (about US$131,750), more than doubling the raised funds from the previous year’s Ride for Hope. Building upon last year’s donation, the charity funds will go to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to build 40 water wells for villagers, and will also support a local primary school.

The riders completed their 800 kilometer journey with rest stops and support at Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen, Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou, Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin, and Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong. The ride offered amazing views of China’s scenic countryside and the impressive skylines of some of China’s larger cities.

“The surroundings of Guilin are magical, time after time I found myself smiling not only at these strange hills popping out of the ground but also a tremendous glow was coming from inside for being on the road once again for such a great cause,” said Nicolas Smith, core team leader and hotel manager from Jing An Shangi-La, West Shanghai, after riding through picturesque Guilin.

Even with a 60-kilometer (about 37-mile) detour, the team reached Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong right on time. Hotel colleagues were ready and waiting to greet them with open arms!

Congratulations to the eight cyclists who committed to this amazing journey.
