Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts were decked floor to ceiling this holiday season with festive garland, ribbons, ornaments, gingerbread houses and more. As part of Shangri-La’s commitment to CSR, each hotel included giving in their celebrations.
This festive season, Shangri-La Hotel, Haikou spread the spirit of caring and sharing through a series of charity activities benefiting the Mangrove Conservation, the hotel’s new Care for Nature project that launched in cooperation with Hainan Dongzhaigang National Nature Reserve. Nearly 200 guests and hotel staff participated in the Christmas Lighting Ceremony, where the hotel sold sweet and savory Christmas delicacies. All profits were donated to the Mangrove Conservation and guests wrote holiday wishes for mangrove conservation and care for the environment.
In China’s capital, Kerry Hotel, Beijing celebrated the holiday season with its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Just before the illumination, General Manager Sinan Yilmaz presented a donation to the hotel’s Care for People project beneficiary, New Day Foster Home, which offers shelter to children in need of life-saving surgeries. Children from the New Day Foster Home joined in the celebration, and some even got to help light the hotel’s six trees!
Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou joined in the holiday spirit of giving by collecting over Rmb230,000 (about US$37,134) for children with hearing impairments from underprivileged families. The funds will be used to purchase cochlear implants and pay for the children’s surgery. Many of the other children cheered as Michael Tam, hotel general manager, teamed with Siyi, a seven-year-old girl who will receive a cochlear implant operation through the hotel's "Hearing The World" charity campaign, to light the Christmas tree.
“We hope with this event, as we usher into the sparkling festive season here at Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou together with our valued guests, we are also living the spirit of Christmas, helping those who are in need,” said Tam.
At Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, the 12-foot-tall Christmas tree was decked top-to-bottom in a Merry Nutcracker Joy Ride theme with crafted Nutcracker soldier and train sugarpieces. Each sugarpiece represented a different sponsor for the hotel’s annual charity commitment to aid children suffering from serious heart ailments in need of surgery. Over 100 children from the United Nations High Commissioner Refugees watched as General Manager Manfred Weber and the parents of 10 children with severe heart ailments lit up the holiday Christmas tree.
Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai glistened with the spirit of giving as the hotel invited patients, family members and medical staff from the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University to its Crystal Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Guests had the chance to purchase the pure Swarovski crystal elements that adorned the tree, from which all proceeds were donated to Shanghai Children’s Health Foundation. The funds will be used for financial aid for young and impoverished leukemia patients in the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University.
To kick of Shangri-La Hotel, Ningbo’s holiday season, guests and staff were serenaded by children from Huamao MEA International School. Throughout the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, guests had the chance to purchase a seasonal Cuddly Bear Collection, in which all proceeds went to the Ningbo Charity Federation to help the Jiangdong district sanitation worker families in need.
“Christmas is all about tradition, family, sharing and caring for one another,” said Richard H’ng, general manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Ningbo.
Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya celebrated the holidays a little differently this year. The hotel invited guests to join the Grant My Christmas Wish charity activity to benefit children at the Bhakti Luhur Orphanage. Guests and staff could buy Christmas decorations handmade by the children.
“This Christmas, we want to share the joy by having this charity where all the proceeds will go completely to the Bhakti Luhur Orphanage. We hope not only to grant the Christmas wishes, but also to help them with daily costs to take care of these kids,” said Renny Herwanto, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya.
