October is the globally-celebrated Breast Cancer Prevention Month, and this year, Shangri-La hotels and colleagues from around the world came together to support the cause!
China World Summit Wing, Beijing kicked off the charitable month with the Pink Ribbon Illumination Lighting Ceremony. The hotel was chosen by the Pink Ribbon organizing committee as the official hotel to host the 2014 Pink Ribbon Event, and with 700 people in attendance, the event was a huge success! Other hotels and landmarks around the world followed suit by illuminating their respective façades with a pink glow, including Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian.
Throughout October, Shangri-La hotels all over the world offered special amenities and menu items to guests: from themed sweet treats and pink high tea, to selling Essence of Shangri-La adorned with pink ribbons, to offering a special pink room at China World Summit Wing, Beijing!
To engage their community, colleagues at Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai teamed up to walk in the city’s Pink Walkathon on October 31. Fifty residence and office employees participated to show their support, and the hotel donated 5,000 HKD (about US $645) to Safe and Sound organizations!
To close out this year’s successful Pink October, the team at Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai collaborated with the More Than Aware organization to treat breast cancer “Survivors and Thrivers” to breakfast in bed. More Than Aware organization brought in 394 participants hungry for breakfast, and the hotel ultimately broke the Guinness World Record for Most People Having Breakfast in Bed!
Whether it was through creating special pink sweet treats or teaming up with colleagues to engage their communities, we are proud of all of our hotels, resorts and colleagues who made this year’s Pink October so successful!
