Shangri-La Colleagues Commit To Community Outreach
Throughout the year, Shangri-La Group is committed to giving back to the communities in which we operate. From helping our furry friends to teaching children about recycling, Shangri-La colleagues are proud to be responsible citizens and thought leaders in our communities.
On March 19, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore colleagues volunteered at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Singapore by cleaning pens and spending time with the animals. The hotel plans to organize future visits to help clean the space, groom and walk the animals.
“We look forward to future interactions with our furry friends,” said Paul Cheng, CSR and sustainability manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.
On March 6, members of the finance and IT departments at Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius volunteered to paint the premises of Joie de Vivre non-profit organization in Poste de Flacq district. Founded in 1987, the organization educates and empowers children with disabilities.
Following the painting project, colleagues spent quality time with 40 children and 12 staff. Resort colleagues ended the day by surprising the students with school materials.
“We feel really proud to be able to help community members in need,” said Franco Sunders, a member of the finance team. “During our time at the center, we were really pleased to notice that these kids are very talented, especially with musical instruments. It was a great day with colleagues as well as contributing to a good cause.”
On March 6, Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka organized a three-day educational visit to historic sites and Sri Lanka in partnership with Dehigahalanda School. Resort colleagues led students from the resort’s EMBRACE beneficiary to more than 16 historic and cultural sites.
On March 14, colleagues from Sule Shangri-La, Yangon donated garbage bins, disposable plates and teacups to the Yan Kin San Yar Monastery Education Center, the hotel’s EMBRACE project.
In early February, colleagues from Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa, Yanuca Island spread love and cheer with a visit to children at several hospitals in Fiji. Along with spending time with patients, colleagues gifted Love Bags with crafts, stationery, toiletries and fresh fruit.
“A smile and laugh from the children was the biggest reward the team could receive,” said Mereoni Mataika, CSR manager at the resort.
On February 29, volunteers from Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, Shangri-La Residences, Jakarta, Green Project and Kampus Diakonea Modern (KDM) visited the Putranusa Orphanage, the hotel’s EMBRACE beneficiary, to teach children about recycling.
