Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul Leads The Way In CSR During COVID-19 Crisis
As with many destinations throughout the world, Istanbul was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. From lockdowns to decreasing resources, organizations and healthcare professionals have struggled through this difficult time.
To show their support, Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul colleagues implemented various programs to support healthcare workers and organizations in need.
Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul delivered hot meals to healthcare workers at Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, one of the many stations working hard to alleviate the COVID-19 crisis in Istanbul.
“Faculty employs 250 healthcare professionals who have selflessly been working in these difficult times to maintain community well-being,” said Reto Klauser, general manager of Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul. “It is important to support them in return.”
The first delivery occurred on April 25 and the hotel continues to support the facility. To date, the hotel has delivered more than 8,000 meals to the dedicated healthcare professionals.
In May and June, Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul colleagues will also support Capa, one of the busiest local hospitals in Istanbul, by baking and delivering pastries for the dedicated healthcare workers on a weekly basis.
Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul donated food supplies to Little Sisters of the Poor, one of the hotel’s CSR partners that cares for 65 elderly residents. Little Sisters of the Poor relies solely on donations and contributions to maintain the building and provide for its residents.
“Due to lockdown procedures and social distancing measures, Little Sisters of the Poor has seen a decrease in donations since the start of the pandemic,” said Klauser. “With the support of our culinary team, we safely delivered over 350 kilograms of food supplies to help our elderly neighbors.”
Looking ahead, Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul will encourage colleagues’ children to create art pieces to show their support and care for those in need during this difficult time. The hotel will exhibit the art pieces in an online art exhibition and will be shared with KACUV (The Hope Foundation for Children with Cancer).
“While we cannot spend time with the children and staff of KACUV in person, we hope the art will brighten the days of our CSR beneficiaries through our virtual outreach,” said Klauser.
The hotel will also implement translations of international medical publications for children and families of KACUV.
“International non-profit organizations that work in the cancer field have many resources published about cancer research, prevention and treatment,” said Klauser. “Translations of these resources will help the foundation, families and children learn about various topics.”
