Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai Welcomes Back Dedicated Traveling Doctors

What started as a localized disease and turned into a global pandemic, COVID-19 spread throughout the world in a manner of months, threatening the lives of people around the world. Brave doctors and nurses in cities throughout China traveled to hard-hit cities to lend helping hands and help fight the spread of the disease.

On April 30, Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai welcomed traveling nurses and doctors back to the city with a grand event. In partnership with Shanghai Oriental Hospital, Lujiazui’s Financial Authority, local subdistrict and Pudong’s Food Safety Association, the hotel welcomed 66 medical workers from Shanghai Oriental Hospital and their families with a luxurious banquet and ceremony after aiding the fight against the virus in Wuhan.

“Prior this year's Spring Festival Holiday, a sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 turned into a serious pandemic in Wuhan,” said Gregor Wateler, general manager of Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai. “They bravely joined the emergency medical rescue team and mobilized to assist in prevention and treatment efforts in Wuhan, the front line in the fight against the epidemic. We are happy that our heroes are back to Shanghai safely now and that Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai is part of the celebration for the family reunion. As one of our CSR initiatives, we wanted to create an unforgettable reunion through Pudong Shangri-La’s hospitality service.”

Over 210 hotel volunteers participated in the event to make the welcome meaningful and memorable. Each medical attendee received a certificate and medal of appreciation.

“It was a pleasure and honor to invite such important personal to us here at Pudong Shangri-La, to take care of them together with their families,” said Ulrich Jablonka, resident manager of Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai. “It made us all very proud how the hotel teams were dedicated to show care and finest hospitality to those heroes of recent times.”
