Properties In MEIA Region Care For Communities During Crisis
Throughout the Middle East, Europe, India, Indian Ocean and Americas, Shangri-La Group properties have extended hospitality from the heart to help communities in need during the COVID-19 global pandemic. From donating food to ensuring the health and safety of our guests and community members by making and donating masks, Shangri-La colleagues show that embracing a stranger as one’s own does not stop during times of crisis.
Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius is dedicated to the health and safety of our colleagues and guests. With this in mind, resort colleagues have produced 80 reusable masks to promote health and safety among guests and colleagues. The resort plans to make more masks for elderly community members.
In addition to increasing health and safety measures, Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius has prepared weekly food packs for vulnerable community members in partnership with local authorities and FOODWISE, a non-profit organization that aims to prevent food waste and food insecurity.
In the Maldives, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives donated face masks and sanitizing products to local charitable organization Nalafehi Meedhoo. Hotel Jen Malé, Maldives prepared and delivered cookies to first responders and frontline workers as a sign of appreciation.
In the UAE, Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi helped the local government contain and track virus outbreaks by providing isolation rooms. The hotels also donated Iftar meals to those in need through the Authority for Social Contribution Ma’an’s Together We Are Good program.
In partnership with the Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives’ 10 Million Meals campaign, Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai provided food assistance to low-income members of the community. The hotel provided daily meals throughout the month of Ramadan.
In India, Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru colleagues cared for our furry friends in the city by committing to donate food for animals at the Charlies Animal Rescue Centre (CARE) for three months. To date, the hotel has supplied over 40 kilograms of food to feed 400 animals at the rescue center.
Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru also donated lunches and sanitary supplies to Angel’s Orphanage, the hotel’s EMBRACE beneficiary, including masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and soap to members of low-income communities.
In collaboration with Connaught Place Police Station, Shangri-La’s – Eros Hotel, New Delhi donated food to frontline workers and raised funds for displaced labor forces in New Delhi.
