From Bean To Table: Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong Grows Mung Beans To Feed The Community

Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong colleagues showed their dedication to CSR by nurturing a project from the ground up. In preparation for Earth Day, the hotel promoted green practices and community engagement by distributing mung beans among colleagues to grow at home. Once the vegetables were ready to cultivate, the hotel culinary team planned to prepare meals for members of the community.


First, colleagues nurtured the bean sprouts into nutritious vegetables.


After the vegetables were matured, the hotel culinary team prepared and packed meals to donate to charitable organizations that assist low-income members of the community.


Once packaged, the meals were ready to go.


The first meal delivery arrived at Wong Cho Tong District Elderly Community Centre in Ho Man Tin.


The second batch of meals were delivered to Food-for-all Kitchen in Tai Kok Tsui, a community cafeteria available low income community members. Community members may dine at the center for HKD10 (about USD1.30) per meal.
