On February 14, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives donated 220 books and magazines to Foh Keesa, a youth group that opened a community library on a local island.
“Beyond the great gift of reading and learning, the activity prevented 180 kilograms of reading material to be tossed in a landfill,” said Jynkee Shaine Camacho, CSR and sustainability manager at the resort.
Also on February 14, Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu and HS Mediclinic hosted a medical clinic for students from the Bantayan Inanam Primary School, the resort’s EMBRACE partner. The doctors and nurses provided physical and eye examinations.
On February 19, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang led a shopping outing with Mr. and Mrs. Paikos, long-stay residents at the resort, and children from the Shan’s Children Home Penang, which helps underprivileged children in the community.
Resort colleagues and the guests led the children through a local store, where they could personally pick one item from the entire store. The resort also purchased daily necessities like clothes, toiletries and more for the children to take home.
On February 20, colleagues from Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok extended help to four-legged members of its community by donating 220 kilograms of bath mats and sheets to The Sound of Animals dog shelter in Ban Kruat district. The linen will be used to create comfortable beds for the dogs.
On February 21, colleagues at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta donated books and learning materials to the Putranusa Orphanage, which helps over 85 children aged from six to 18 years old.
“They are all happy and excited to receive the books,” said Bintari Rarastiwi, CSR and sustainability manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta.
On February 22, Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka celebrated World Yoga Day at Dehigahalanda School, the resort’s EMBRACE partner. The resort’s Yoga Master Sajith led a guided yoga practice for 57 students and provided tips to improve daily mindfulness.
“Yoga’s benefits have been known for thousands of years,” said Palinda Perera, CSR and sustainability manager at the resort. “It improves flexibility, balance and posture, increases blood flow, boosts immunity, helps regulate blood pressure, and helps one focus and sleep better.”
Thank you to our colleagues around the world who continue to make a difference in their communities.
On February 26, Shangri-La Resort, Shangri-La welcomed children from a local orphanage for a baking activity.
“The main purpose of this activity was to let the children express their creativity and have fun while baking in a warm and loving environment,” said one of the event organizers. “Through activities like this, we hope to set a good example for local organizations and members of our community to help these children in need.”
