Shangri-La Properties Around The World Support Our Environment
As one of the four pillars of Shangri-La’s Sustainability, the group’s hotels and resorts are committed to protecting and restoring Our Environment. Check out how Shangri-La colleagues helped clean and safeguard their environments throughout February.
On February 11, 18 colleagues from Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, Mauritius participated in a beach cleanup on Ilot Mangenie, the resort’s private island. The colleagues collected several bags of plastic bottles, containers and more. After the activity, colleagues sent the recyclable material to a local recycling plant.
“Everyone reached the turtle conservation center together,” said Yaw Ling Wong, CSR and sustainability manager at the resorts. “The team helped relocate a hatching tent, helped prepare nesting sites for the upcoming nesting season, and replaced new nets at the damaged areas.”
On February 23, volunteers from Sule Shangri-La, Yangon cleaned the areas surrounding the Bagan Pagodas. Part of the Ancient Bagan City, the Bagan Pagodas are part of the archaeological area where over 2,000 Buddhist monuments lie.
“This was an important activity to show our commitment to Our Environment, as well as the importance of Yangon’s cultural heritage,” said Jimmy Phyo Min Thein, assistant director of human resources at the hotel.
On February 28, 48 colleagues from Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka visited the Ridiyagama Safari Park to spruce up the grass in the lion’s area.
“This was one of the biggest tasks for the team, as the grass needed to be pulled out from the soil to prevent spreading,” said Palinda Perera, CSR and sustainability manager at the resort. “The program will repeat with another batch of staff members, in several months to manage the spreading and make natural habitat back to its shape.”
On February 28, 52 volunteers from Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao participated in an environmental cleanup in nearby May Fourth Square. Twenty-four departments were represented in the activity.
Thank you to our colleagues around the world who helped beautify their surrounding environment!
