Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor Encourages Anti-Food Waste Practices On Property

Shangri-La Group’s hotels and resorts around the world host various CSR activities every month to make the greatest impact in their communities, environment and more. Check out how colleagues at Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor completed CSR activities in January 2019.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, roughly one third of food produced in the world for human consumption (about 1.3 billion tons) gets lost or wasted every year. On January 15, Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor aimed to reduce food waste on property with its second Food Waste Awareness campaign in the colleague restaurant. With the theme “Love Food, Hate Waste,” the campaign featured educational signs in the restaurant to build awareness about the issue and educate colleagues.

“Colleagues were happy to participate in this awareness day,” said Muhammad Azizan Husin Kamal, human resources associate at the hotel. “Food taken was finished, ensuring no waste was produced. Food was cleared off the plates in minutes!”

“This is a meaningful activity to show awareness and care to our environment,” said Muhammad. “We are planning more campaigns in the future as our colleagues are in full support of this activity.”

On January 19, 15 colleagues from Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor participated in a food drive to help the less fortunate in Johor Bahru City. In partnership with Kechara Soup Kitchen, colleagues donated food and toiletries to help feed low-income members of the community.

“We believe that success is not achieved without giving back and making a difference in the lives of others,” said Muhammad.
