WATERisLIFE Project Update: Third Water System Installation Is A Success In Yushu Province
In November 2017, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts launched a partnership with WATERisLIFE to install water treatment systems in three elementary schools in remote communities in west southern China. They included Dhama School in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province; Experimental School Sahuteng Town, and No. 2 Tibetan School in Zaduo County Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Providing the students and community access to clean and safe drinking water, the initiative benefits more than 4,000 students, teachers and community members.
Following successful installations in Diqing and Sahuteng Town, on March 3, the third SunSpring water treatment system was installed at the No. 2 Tibetan School in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. According to a test report of water samples prior to the initiative, the water in the school had been contaminated by bacteria. The new water treatment system will provide potable water to the entire community.
Manufactured by Innovative Water Technologies Inc., SunSpring is a solar and wind powered decentralized water treatment system that generates up to 20,000 liters of safe drinking water per day for up to 10 years. The system has been awarded the Gold Seal Certificate by Water Quality Association USA. During the time of installation, WATERisLIFE trained the teachers in the school to do daily maintenance and inspection for the equipment. Following the installation, WATERisLIFE will provide online assistance for continual support and conduct a water test every six months to monitor the water quality.
