#ShangriLaLaLa: Shangri-La Hotels And Resorts Spread Holiday Cheer Through CSR
‘Tis the season of giving, and our hotels and resorts around the world are getting into the spirit! This year, Shangri-La and Hotel Jen properties are celebrating the holiday season by giving back to their communities.
To start the holiday season, many Shangri-La hotels and resorts held charity events, including fun runs and tree lighting ceremonies.
On December 2, Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai raced into the holiday season with its third annual Charity Santa Run. The 5K race welcomed runners of all ages in jolly Santa costumes to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Fudan. After a fun day of running past skyscrapers and along the river, the event raised RMB157,168 (about USD23,746), which will be donated to the hospital to help children suffering from leukemia.
Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong kicked off the holiday season with a special CSR event and tree lighting ceremony. The Singapore International School choir brightened the event with festive songs. After the tree lighting ceremony, VIP guests painted chocolate cakes with icing that spelled out “I <3 OSC” for Operation Santa Claus, an annual fundraising campaign that helps local charities around Hong Kong. After the ceremony, the children enjoyed eating the cake with hotel colleagues.
Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur held its annual Christmas Charity Tree lighting ceremony that raises money to benefit children in critical health conditions. Throughout the holiday season, organizations and individuals can sponsor a Christmas Bauble on the tree for a minimum donation of RM1,000 (about USD246). For guests and organizations that feel more generous, five exclusive limited edition Christmas Baubles can be sponsored for a minimum of RM3,000 (about USD737). In return, the donors’ names or company logos are displayed on the tree throughout the holiday season. All money raised goes to six underprivileged children in need of immediate medical care. To date, the hotel has raised more than RM4 million (about USD983,040) through the annual Christmas Charity Tree for children who are critically ill.
Hotel Jen Manila kicked off the holiday season by illuminating its holiday tree with the help of students from the Maytubig Day Care Center, a public preschool operated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development to help underprivileged youth. The hotel will continue to give back throughout December by gifting charitable donations to the center on behalf of valued business partners. The donations will go towards funding a new library, restroom and handwashing area in the center.
Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa, Yanuca Island used its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony as a chance to give back to its community. Following a successful tree lighting, the resort raised over FJD7,000 (about USD3,384) for Walk On Walk Strong (WOWS) Fiji, which supports children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Shangri-La Hotel, Bangalore celebrated its 23-foot tree lighting ceremony by giving back to Angels Orphanage. Last year, the hotel raised INR80,000 (about USD1,240) for the orphanage, which was used to purchase gifts from the children’s wish lists. The hotel will continue this tradition through this holiday season by raising money for the children, and taking the children to buy gifts from their wish lists. The hotel will extend its spirit of CSR past the holiday season by renovating the orphanage’s kitchen and pantry.
Hotels are keeping the festive spirit alive throughout the holiday season by selling gifts that will benefit charitable causes.
Guests at Kowloon Shangri-la, Hong Kong can give the gift of CSR with holiday chocolate boxes. Each box comes with 10 chocolates, two of which are engraved with “I <3”. Guests can engrave the remaining eight chocolates with letters to spell out a name or word, and even include emojis. Proceeds will go to Operation Santa Claus.
